Although some of the manufacturers of "cheap" SET gear might care to characterize their products in a slightly different way than you do, I'm willing to assume (at least temporarily) that you are correct in your statement.Frihed89 is asking why some people might make the switch from DHT-SET to SS. Could it be that the answer has to do with value, or "bang-for-the buck"? Could it be that, to the ears of many (or most?) middle-class audiophiles, the best sounding amplification would not be "DHT-SET"?
If the answers to the above are YES, then we ("We the people...") are simply doing the best that can be done under the circumstances. WE are doing our best to optimize our listening experience.
An "audiophile" (my definition) is simply someone who trys to optimize the home listening experience. In this asphalt jungle we call HOME, there are poor audiophiles and there are rich ones.
The uplifting aspect of this entire scenario is that no system rivals the sound of live music in a good setting, so "the best" in audio reproduction is rightly viewed as a luxury rather than a necessity.
