What makes men go bald.....
DHT stands for directly-heated triode.... Some, including myself, believe it has a more "immediate" sound..... (Sensing the rosin on violin bow, the pedaling on a piano, the inflections of a vocalist, or the wood/distortion of an electric guitar.) The disadvantage of DHTs is the propensity to (50/60Hz) hum in a lot of circuits. Most SET amps are also very low power, so they'll require efficient speakers.
Most DHT tubes have only four pins. This is because the filament is also the cathode. Indirect heated triodes have the filament separate from the cathode.
