Yes, and different people have different ideas about that which constitutes good "soundstaging/imaging"...I have heard of people whose brains (for one reason or another) do not seem to recognize or process things like "soundstaging". They will listen for it but they just "don't get it", while a person sitting next to them easily perceives the soundstaging. There must also be people who can decipher soundstaging, but to a limited degree. Other people might have brains with naturally stellar soundstaging capabilites.
Possibly complicating the design process for manufacturers, the sonic contributions of the listener will always be be hard to quantify and verify. More so in some instances than in others, of course.
