IMHO the golden age of hi-fi was way before Harry Pearson's overblown systems....

...graced the pages of his vanity magazine.

There was a brief moment, when stereo came in and vacuum tube gear was still in full swing that was quite special. The Quad 57 had come out a few years earlier and manufacturers were making enthusiast gear at all price points. Scott, Fisher, Mac, Grommes, Stromberg-Carlson, Bell, Brook, Marantz one could go on, and on. You could still buy beautiful speakers by JBL, Klipsch, Electro-Voice, Altec and all of the rest.

Early transistor gear came in and pretty much ruined the party. But it was fun while it lasted.
