Might be a good idea. It's funny I can easily find topics discussing high rez, CD and vinyl in technical terms and all kinds of hapless comparisons. Of course with that a plethora of conclusions based on anecdotal evidence.
Recently been using a playlist consisting of lossless live downloads - most of them sourced from the Internet Archives. In my car and on my boombox these are some of the best sounding recordings I own - no reason to think they won't be the same on my big systems.
In a way it kind of puzzles me there has been so little comment on the quality of this stuff. No it's not the same old audiophile approved kind of stuff and the selection is limited. But still Robert Randolph, Drive By Truckers, North Mississippi Allstars, Derek Trucks Band, My Morning Jacket and many others participate in these kinds of totally free and legal high quality downloads.
If one looks one can find live bootlegs and demo/outtakes recordings for almost every band available for free download on the internet. Some of it sounds absolutely fantastic. I don't think it has so much to do with the format or media (lossless should be good enough). I think being raw and production free is the key.
