In a place like the USA, where creativity and originality isn't as important as conformity and commerce: regurgitation is the norm. So, therefore, I can see more importance being placed "reliving" the past. This is also supported by the copy-cat artists: and the popularity of crap like American Idol.
If there are 50 Tom Pettys, playing Tom Petty songs, does it really matter what Tom Petty does?
