And Willie will be 81 on the 29th.
Yeah, his voice surely isn't what it once was and he talked through a lot of songs more than singing them, but I suppose he was saving up for the choruses because he could still belt it out now and then. And he hasn't lost anything on his playing including the same old beat up guitar.
My buddy had seen him about a year ago and warned me that he might do an initial 20 minute set and disappear which was what he had done a year or so when he'd seen him. And he was right. After the initial 20 minute medley of 5 or 6 songs, Willie turned it over to his son, Lucas.
But he came back up after that little break and did an hour and a half show that was great and stayed on stage afterward signing autographs for those in the front for 5 minutes or more.
So perhaps we caught him on a good night and the other time, he might not have been feeling well that night. At that age, it's going to be a bit hit or miss.
BB King is playing on August 27th at Humphrey's, so I'll let you know if it's worth it then.
