I was around 16 in 1945 or so. I spotted several 10" Majestic 78 rpms in what passed for the local record store in small-town Ohio. I took them home to my Silvertone 78 player I used with thorn needles from a bush outside my bedroom window (already a tweaker) and was enthralled. He sounded much more "modern" than the stride pianist that Rick has linked. I played them yesterday and am still enthralled. Dumped the thorn needles, though, but my 1960s-era Empire table and arm -- the setup I dedicate to 78s -- still constitutes an antique. But then, so do I.
