Observations Fron CES

I returned from 5 days of fun in sin city Saturday and thought I would post about a few things.

Let's start with the coolest first; My friends I and had a chance to shoot the sh$t with Eveanna Manley (as well as her assistant- who's name escapes me) for a half hour about a few things with audio being the least of them.
Harley's, beer, travel to Vietnam etc........
Her take on shows basically mimics mine; All the rooms sound compromised so don't get too uptight about it. Anyway, we couldn't escape without her digging into her stash of t-shirts & hats... See ya next time "super cool high end audio designer chick", from your Minnesota boys.

There were many great sounding rooms but the Lamm/Wilson room was stupid good! Insert usual audio hyperbole here ____.

I have to relate a funny little thing about that room here. My two buddies and I are sitting in the second row of the Lamm/Wilson room enjoying eargasm when in walks John Atkinson. Mr. Lamm plops him down front and center, he then walks over to the transport and snatches what ever is playing out of the tray, and tosses it unceremoniously to the side. He then walks up to JA (like grasshopper to master) with a short stack of lp's for him to choose from and plays a few cuts as John scribbles his notes. A few other guests were talking quietly in the back of the room; this evidently pissed Mr. Lamm off as he without hesitation showed them the door. Anyway, it was quite a "rocket polishing" display.

Next, a rep from....let's just call it a California speaker company.....and I were discussing kids, their college tuition, wives etc... when it hit us both funny that most of the attendees probably had no idea about any of that. He said "watch this, I bet you $20 this guy (think 50 year old virgin) sits down and leans way forward and stares intently at the sound (in the hope that will make him hear better) coming out of the speakers". Sure as sh$t, he did. LMFAO!!!!!

Other great rooms - any room on the 35th floor at the Venetian $$$$$$$.

The following rooms in no particular order.

1) Golden Ear Technology
2) Joseph Audio
3) High Water Sound/Cessaro Horn Acoustics
4) Gallo Loudspeakers
5) Triode Corp Japan
6) Nola Loudspeakers
7) BAT - Jeff Poor was quite charismatic and easy to talk to.
8) Paradigm - How they got that much tuneful tight bass with no sub is beyond me.
9) Audio Note Japan - eye candy -wow!

And many others.......

Not much in the way of S.E.T. & high efficiency horns with the exception of Cessaro. Oh well, that's what RMAF is for.

I would be remiss if I didn't thank Klipsch for bringing 500 to 600 of us to a all you can drink-a-thon private rock concert at the Hard Rock Casino, where your money was no good. THANKS KLIPSCH. Paul would have loved it!!!!! 60 years ago...

Vegas is always fun, but I kinda miss the days when the mob ran the show - ¢50 shrimp cocktails, ¢50 Heinikens, $4 buffets, $5 taxis etc....The new Vegas is fun too though. I don't want to sound like a wheezing geriatric.
