and had them set up by my dealer and evaluated by others. In addition both my wife and I have auditioned the 5A, 5A carbon, and 7 at Optimal Enchantment in Santa Monica. The 7 is superb and is the only one we might be able to live with now..
The Audio Notes solved the few problems I heard with the Vandies. The Audio Notes are not perfect. but I can more easily live with their compromises.
If I could afford 7s and a new amp (I heard them with the Audio Research Ref 150), I might go that way. As I told Randall at OE, the 7s are the true vindication that Richard Vandersteen and his design ethos can produce a truly superb loudspeaker. They are excellent, and on another plane above the 5 series. Given the use of some of the identical drivers, I was a bit shocked at how much better the 7 is than the 5a Carbon. We are left to conclude that the 7's cabinet has worked transformative wonders.
