General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

RE: elite group: in some ways, as unusual, but not in other ways as 'chosen by God' crap..

Sure sounds reminiscent of Obama's all too familiar rant against the wealthy. eg. putz, rich ahole.

I don't know if most audiophiles are elitists anymore than any other others who are passionate about their hobby. I have belonged to two audiophile society's and have attended too many shows to count and I seldom got the impression that I was in the midst of high-end snobs.

I clearly remember back in the 70s going into audio salons which required a pedigree for entrance and acted as if they were doing you a favor for just letting you in. I think that kind of BS is largely history.

I don't necessarily think that as a group we are elitists but I know that we comprise a very small niche in society that the overwhelming majority of folks don't even know exists. When people who learn of my audio interest and ask what I have I know they are unlikely to have heard of any of my gear and are looking for names like Sony, Kenwood, Polk, Bose. et. al. This is gear that I never put down but I'm simply aware this is what the general public associates with audio components. I have to admit the one comment or question that I have heard over the years has to do with the size of my speakers as if that is going to determine their quality.
