Why do you suppose so many lottery winners and athletes turning pro buy flashy new cars as soon as they get any of the money?
That is the most obvious display of their wealth. Whether to be seen driving around in their expensive wheels or having it parked in their driveway, it provides a clear outward sign.
So what if they drop 50 large on a stereo, who knows about that?
Then I also agree with those who've suggested it depends on where you live. Around here I see more cars that sold for $50-250K in one day than in some parts of the US may in a year. So much so that $50K seems like your average family hauler.
Now my car cost 60% of that new and it was still more than my audio system. Doesn't matter, I enjoy them both. ;^)
