I think we are at cross-purposes here.

A number of people jump all over with claims I never made,

Now you come up with the classic opposition of measuring components with equipment generating numbers vs. human ears listening and, at least for reviewers and just ordinary users interested in communicating with others, attempting to describe what they hear in some meaningful manner.

How about if I simply put it this way: leaving aside all question of using measuring equipment, are there ways and methods of evaluating components "subjectively" that are more valid than other ways and methods of evaluating them "subjectively"?

Is there any position between the "if it measures the same it sounds the same" school and the "everyone hears differently" school?

As a manufacturer I would be so leery of building and marketing anything audio if, indeed, everyone does hear differently, or, at the very least, I would stick on tone controls on most items!
