Class D is significantly more efficient than other classes of operation including traditional Class AB. Class A is least efficient. If you can find a good Class D amp (like a "T-Amp") and run it off batteries, the battery will last quite a long time.

I was sort of kidding about the car audio amps but many of them do indeed run Class D because it is very power efficient.
