The thermoplastic is such that it withstands higher impact, and the contacts are usually bright-nickel plated so there is never any tarnishing. Different requirements for hospital/medical use.

But the duplex shown is no match for a Wattgate, Furutech, or Oyaide in terms of sonic performance and musical enjoyment.
