Not a rant ...just a story ...I bought a KAB wood base for my SL-1200 from a guy on Audiogon. It arrived at my door in a totally squashed box. I opened the box to find the base was put inside without a bag or bubblewrap ...just tossed in a pile of packing peanuts.
It survived unscathed.
I didn't much care for the base, so I put it on AA and sold it. I found a nice sturdy box for it, wrapped the base in bubble wrap, put a layer of packing peanuts in the bottom of the box, put in the base and then covered it with more peanuts. I shook the book and nothing moved ...it was nice and tight.
I then got a bigger box and put the smaller box into it, lining the space between the boxes with packing material.
It arrived in four pieces.
Go figure.
(Edit: UPS was the shipper, both times.)
reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
