I don't have anti digital reaction...I own many Redbook CD's...some sound good while others don't. But they all sound different than vinyl. I enjoy both formats but like the vinyl sound (under perfect conditions) better than Redbook CD's.
My point is that vinyl is not holding back development of digital...DVD A & SACD are failing to become anything but niche formats due to the preference of the general public (convenience over quality). Nothing historically new about that.
Audiophile community will not dictate the standards that the general public will adapt. That's reality. Imagine if you were a business exec who came up with the perfect digital format!...try to convince a board (after the failure of DVD A & SACD to capture market share) to move on it.
Digital has great potential that will never be reached for years. The technology is there already...but standards rule. We are still using the QWERTY system (developed so that typewriter salesmen could type "typewriter" on 1st row of keys) on computer keyboards. You are putting the cart before the hoarse in my opinion.
There will be perfect digital format someday...but if you name is not Connor 'The Highlander' MacLeod ...you probably won't see it.
