As commented here and in other venues, 24-bit format recordings are not 24-bit resolution. They're more like 16-18 bit resolution due to noise. See James Boyk's letter to Hificritic from 12/10/2007.
I've heard some comparisons of the CD versus SACD versus LP of the same recording. The SACD was marginally better than the CD. The LP trounced them both.
