The record labels and recording industry could care less about sound quality - you need look no further than the number one seller of music in this country, iTunes, to realize that! The buying public is ignorantly content to scarf up 128kbs MP3's at .99/each with nary a complaint among most of them.

We are the minority, folks. The outright marketing flop of DVD-A and SACD has proven that.
