Having collected records for 40+ years, I know the obvious, that vinyl is simply better. Of the 700 CDs I own, very few produced after 1995 are worth listening to. Thanks to the insane LOUDNESS WARS, most commercialy available CDs (and their retarded inbred cousin the MP3) are unlistenable crap. I have not bought a new CD in over three years. I spend plenty on new vinyl.
Vinyl making a "comeback"? Not surprising since there have got to be more than a few people out there not content with IPODs and overpriced black plastic "home entertainment systems" spinning overcompressed CDs. Even with high end equipment, CDs just seem lacking. Maybe I'm just a dinosaur who refuses to change? Nah, my ears know better.
The comments in this thread about vinyl and turntables being expensive are ill-informed and just plain wrong. My average price paid for used records is less than $0.10 apiece, thanks to buying large collections for cheap. Even if 80% of what I buy is crap, I'm still left with a huge library of pristine NM vinyl & shellac for very little money. I've got several $10 yard sale turntables that will blow away the majority of CD players.
