a lot of spare time on your hands to read through the greater knowledge of mankind to get good results.

Video is a MASSIVELY more involved undertaking to record & archive via computer.
I've enjoyed the time I've spent learning this over the last 3 years (and I still consider myself a novice), but a dedicated recorder would certainly be easier.
