A simple DVD recorder may be a good idea.

The one I have is a Samsung DVD-R155. If you use RW disks, you can copy everything over to the DVD record then mark off certain portions for deletion etc. Once happy, 'close' the disk and it should then be playable in any DVD player.

I got mine mainly for transferring our family videos over from the camcorder - but it also saves us a lot by allowing us to record the kids' favourates instead of buying them on DVD.
