For how neglected this playback format has been the past 20 years, I think it has advanced technologically, unlike digital playback. I mean, there are a lot of fine turntables, arms, cartridges, and especially electronics out there..... At reasonable prices. (If you would call two grand "reasonable".) And with proper setup, it doesn't take much to outdo modern digital playback, across the board.
It is more obvious today than in the past, because I really think digital recording and playback technology as a whole has actually regressed sonically, to the point where musicians and mainstreamers are now recognizing the difference, and preferring the 12" black disc.
