when you come round here whining about how bad your stereo sounds.

How about the "interplay" between the band members? The conviction and purpose of the singers? How well do various individual instrumental lines come together propelling the music forward? What about harmonic integrity and fine dynamic shadings?

All of the stuff above is what makes music music and on a good system you get more of it even with less than ideal recordings.

And that stuff don't come on the cheap.

No I'm not surprised at all. It sounds to me like you've never heard a good audio system in your life even though you've heard alot of expensive ones.
