For decades the turntable market has survived because of the patronage of old folks, hip-hop DJs and those dorky crate-diggers who haunt the Harvard Square record shops. But the times are changing. Or rather, they’re changing back.
The vinyl market is enjoying an astounding rebound. Sales were up 37 percent last year and are on track to top that figure in ’08. More and more music fans are splitting their listening time between tiny Nanos and big, 12-inch records.
Why? Because - as audiophiles have said for years - old-school vinyl simply sounds better than CDs and other digital formats.
