.... I’m guessing it happened exactly how the guy described. The one speaker burnt certainly looks like a hot-plate could have caused the damage.

I am guessing he placed the speakers on the stove without realising a hotplate was on. It seems he has placed a sheet & some carpet over the stove when he has placed the speakers. I am guessing he walked away shortly after placing the speakers.

Kitchens & houses are often burnt down by someone leaving something unattended on a stove. However I am guessing leaving a speaker on a stove is possibly a first. (though I wouldn’t bet on it)
