When comparing a stereo component with itself, we audiophiles will typically claim to hear differences 50% to 75% of the time when no differences are possible.

Those results have been repeated again and again over three decades.

The actual number was 62% of the time in the infamous Stereopile Blind amp test.

In trials where an amp was compared to itself, 62% of the time the Stereophile blind test participant reported hearing differences when none were possible ... in spite of the fact that Atkinson was winking, and twiching his ears, and making hand gestures, to tip off the listeners and get the golden ear "accuracy" (100%) he so desperately wanted!
