My mistake, Rob, in defining dumb as deaf. I did mean the inability to speak, not the inability to hear, but dashed my note off too quickly.

I consider the "lacking intelligence" definition of dumb to be slang or sloppy usage. I mentioned it to tweak Madisonears because he was condemning others so strongly for their poor use of language.
