Interesting post Clark! He brings up a number of arguments that need airing. The post might need a little "cleaning" in order to get the idea across with a little more tact, but the basics are in there.
This came home to me about two weeks ago in my studio. Number one son brought his ipod down and asked me why the same tunes on the ipod sounded different than the originals I had loaned to him to put on it. It didn't take advanced equipment to show him the difference; I took the output of the ipod in one set of inputs and my source in another and we just had to watch the meters on the EQ and the power amp to see the effect of compression and lack of dynamic range. The difference was day and night.
The general public needs a massive re-education program in order to let them know that:
1. They have forgotten what good sound can be.
2. They can get the labels and organizations to give them better product.
3. They need to either speak out loudly or vote with their checkbooks.
We know that better sound is possible if we demand it and are ready to pay for it in reasonable terms.
Thanks for posting this piece!!!
