Frequency response measurements will reveal gross problems with equipment but cannot display the intermodulation properties, especially the susceptibility of electronic components to RF noise.

"Frequency response" as measured with a slow sweep of a sine wave test tone only has meaning if the equipment under test is perfectly linear within the pass band and has zero response outside the pass band. Neither of these conditions is likely to be true.
