...that is a tall order IMHO. I TRY not to just "waste" money on my system (though everyone defines that differently). Some ideas, all of which could arguably not be considered "frivolous", but are at least stealth (besides the excellent tubes idea):

A mono cartridge from Grado
A cartridge alignment jig
An electronic tracking force scale
The Cardas IBE disc
One of the Stereophile test discs and a sound level meter
Used set of Sennheiser headphones
Audience Auric Illuminator
HiFi Tuning fuses
Oyaide outlet
Quicksilver contact enhancer
Something from Mapleshade
Used set of Stillpoints

Less stealth ideas include cable elevators and Echo Busters corner busters...
