I'm with you, I have grown to like some of her stuff, or perhaps better put, I have crept timidly into the genres that are the foundation of what she likes :)
She really enjoys current country, which I grade as essnetially pop or rock-based music with a country twang. I hate it and still do. However, I've come to appreciate some of the great blue grass and country musicians from earlier years as well as Alison Krauss whose voice I feel is that of an earthly angel. Johnny Cash is an often heard artist in my home, and a solid banjo duet bounces through the walls every month or so.
I agree with you regarding romanticism and this hobby. Few hobbies permit a couple to snuggle intimately on a couch in an unlit room, enjoying some fine wine (or beverage of one's choice) and each other's company. She helped me acquire some of my gear and has been supportive of me acquiring the rest. The music, well, as I said, much of it is a crap shoot for her but slowly she is growing into the collection. My kids though...born music lovers. One is nearly 4, the other rounding 2 and they adore anything with a lovely melody. Throw in some solid bombastic bass lines and the kids are dancing up a storm. This hobby can really be a family affair.
