In my real life I am the Director of Publicity for the Institute of Musical Traditions, (www.imtfolk.org) a nonprofit (501)(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional music and folk arts. We present over 40 concerts a year (for the last 25 years!)in Maryland - in the past few weeks alone we have welcomed John Jorgenson, Wayne Henderson, Howard Levy and the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
On May 12th we will hold our semi-annual silent auction - a major fundraiser in an effort to make our nonprofit designation more legal than factual. Our world-class performances are funded through ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, foundations and public funding agencies, but many of these sources are slowly disappearing.
If you can help us with a donation of handcrafted items, business gift certificates, services, music or memorabilia, etc., please contact me by email through the Asylum, by telephone at 301-642-7014, or at our headquarters in Takoma Park, MD at 301-270-9090. Note that all donations are fully deductible for the final auction price. If you wish to attend any of our fabulous shows in Rockville, MD, check out our website for schedules and tickets.
Thanks for letting me "pimp" our cause here. I'm sure we're all agreed that the preservation of live music is a noble undertaking, and I know that the generosity of Asylum inmates is legendary (?). Please prove me right!
