drums12344321,Yes, beautiful Woodland Hills. It's the only area I can stand in the Valley, and it's because it's mostly tight hills with lots of trees- hence the name. But, you're absolutely right- it's hot as hell, often with the hottest temperatures in Los Angeles. My theory is that Woodland Hills is in the area where the mountain narrow the San Fernando Valley to the pass at Calabasas and the tight valley traps the heat. In July, 2006 Woodland Hills had the highest temperature ever recorded in Los Angeles City- 119 F. That was impressive- plus the 7% humidity. Last Summer though was quite reasonable and usually the temperture is not painful except about 30 days a year it goes over 95. The good feature is the low humidity. It cools off at night though and 90 F days can be 62 nights, so if you open up at night and cool the house and then keep it closed up during the day, the house can stay comfortable for all but two or three hours on even quite hot days.
And yes, the sounds of nature are wonderful as it's quiet enough to hear everything. I also like that this area- up against Mullholland and the Mountain reserve- with 12 miles of undeveloped land betwen here and the ocean, so it's really dark at night- the only place I've lived where the stars are so visible.
Glendale has it's charms too. I'm designing a house up in the hills near the Chevy Chase golf course and there are several Lloyd Wright houses from the 20's and there are piles of nice Spanish houses from the 20's and 30's.
Cheers,
Bambi B
