I have a lot of trouble distinguishing between CD players past a certain price-point. It seems the knee in the curve happens pretty low in the chain, and I can't afford the $50,000 jobs, so I can't say what other mysteries the continuum of cd players contains.

Although, 1987 would have been smack dab in the middle of the conversion from multibit dacs to the single bit high clock cycle versions that overcame the market. I never did like the mass market versions of those players.
