<< Early treatment is vital. >>
Yes, the sooner the better. But please read below.
<< Several years after a stroke further recovery is going to be extremely unlikely and after 24 years as in my case I would suggest that it is simply impossible >>
Fortunately, this is simply untrue. Here is one example. The CHT who runs the chamber here suffered a stroke at age 8 that left his left side of his body virtually useless. For 15 years he tried every therapy imaginable, both traditional and alternative, from acupuncture to tendon transfers.
When he first heard of HBOT, he thought it was probably not going to work but decided to try it anyway, figuring he had nothing to lose. The clinic said that while HBOT worked great for stroke that they had never treated anybody more than one year post injury, and that they couldn't promise any results. At this time the patient was 15 years post injury.
Halfway through the first treatment he could move his left foot for the first time in 15 years. Today, after over 100 treatments he leads a relatively normal life. He still limps and has a weak left arm, but can drive, ski, and run an HBOT clinic.
This is just one example of the fact that recovery can occur after many, many years.
