I was in college back in the late 80s/early 90s, when it was still expensive for independent bands to release CDs, and vinyl had fallen out of favor (except for 7" punk singles). Cassettes were the fastest/cheapest way for a band to get their music out.

So, I have a stash of cassettes from college bands that I liked at the time. Many of them I have transferred over to CD for backup, but I can't see myself throwing them out.
