OK, dumb expression.

But I was amazed a while ago at a friend's for a short listening session. He played a couple of pre-recorded jazz cassette tapes and they sounded way better than anything I remembered. 20-30 years ago I recorded cassettes (mainly for friends and the car) but always found pre-recorded to have poor quality. I believe it was the high speed dupe process. But many of my own recordings sounded quite good.

I need to contact him and find out the labels for the good sounding cassettes. He did tell me he bought them for $.25 to $1. Time to look for thrift store cassettes in addition to LPs?
