There are audio-quality step-down and step-up transformers that use toroidal transformers and contain additional filtration. I've seen them on the net, but don't remember where.

Also, if your unit does not have a dual voltage switch the input transformer is probably a dual-primary type. That means it can be re-wired, but perhaps not exactly for 230V and 50 cycles. I don't know enough to know what electrical devices in hifi equipment is AC frequency driven...probably very little. Of course with AC motors, that's another issue.
