Using a transformer to drop the voltage to 110V should be fine. The difference in frequency should not cause a problem unless you are taking a source componenet that has a synchronous motor e.g a turntable.
However the radio part of your receiver may cause a problem. Firstly the frequency band over which e.g. FM programmes are broadcast may well not match those that are used in the USA (where I presume you currently live). Furthermore stereo de-emphasis is different in Europe. Also if you get a proper antenna for reception (recommended) you will find the European standard is 75ohm as opposed to 300ohm. This is easily fixed by use of a device called a balun.
NB We don't have 220V in all countries. the nominal standard is 230V but in practice it varies for example in the UK it is 240V.
