Just got a Pr. of Proac studio 140 speakers.
WOW !!!
They are just what I’ve been looking for. A speaker that makes you forget about the sound and just get into the music. I have had then for about a week and they don’t do any thing wrong.
They play loud enough for me, are not bright at all, a very balanced sound over all.
One thing that they do that the Tannoys don’t is micro dynamics . They PLAY the music.
You hear little subtle things like when the guitar player plays the end of a phrase he played the cord a little bit stronger. The timing is great. Rhythm is precise.
They help you understand the musicians intent , the feeling they were going for.
At low volume they sound great. You don’t have to be in the sweet spot to enjoy them.
So what is the problem ???
I have a VTL stereo 90 and a set of Manley Mahi mono blocks 40 watts.
Before with the Tannoys is was no contest. The Manley Plays the music better.
BUT with the Proac,… It’s such a good match with the VTL that the difference is so little that’s it’s a moot point.
Yes the Manley times better (prat ) but not that much better anymore because the Proac does it’s job so well.
With the VTL, I have a bigger sound and more color because of the GE 6550 tubes. The speaker just wakes up more.
The Manley with the EL 84 has a quicker sound and is a bit more involving in its own way.
Plus I have the option of Tridoe mode at 21 watts for a different sound.
That sounds great also.
But I need to sell one of them .
I can’t decide which one to keep.
What to do…What to do.
