This is a quick review of the Vintage Voltage meet in Denver that took place today.
This is the second year of the show. Like last year, it was held in the Ramada Inn in Northglenn, just north of Denver.
The show is divided into two rooms and two functions. The central atrium houses the old radios and televisions. There are some beautiful pieces there, but this is an audiophile forum and I don't know diddly about antique radios, so we'll leave it at that.
The main event took place in the ballroom. There were 20 or 30 vendors. Most were hawking vintage stereo equipment, which now mostly consists of solid state gear. There were a couple of vendors selling records, one was selling knobs, odd tube sockets and the like, there was a little guitar stuff, and even some old toys (don't know why). Oh, and one all guy hawking “alternative technology.” The highlight of the show equipment-wise was a Marantz 8B and 7C (I think it was a 7C) along with another piece of vintage tubed Marantz gear that I can't remember (no, not a 10B or a pair of 9s). The most interesting speakers (to me) was a pair of Stax electrostats. The oddest piece of equipment I saw was an elcaset deck.
Everyone I met there was friendly and interested in the hobby. If you have time next year, you may want to pop on out to Denver for a meet and—who knows—maybe a buy.
