I'm sure that all the posters who suggest that you just "teach" your children not to touch your system mean well. However, regardless of your willingness to risk damage to your stereo equipment, you should not take chances with the lives of your children. If a child were to chew on a power cord, for example, they could die or suffer a burn of the mouth that in many cases, cannot be corrected, leaving them disfigured and unable to open their mouths. Or, equipment might fall on them . It only takes a few seconds. I know, as I have taken care of such injuries in the course of my work. Infants and children die of negligence every day. If you think that it would be irresponsible to leave a loaded gun within reach of a 2 or 3 year old after "teaching" him not to touch it, then you shouldn't leave them within reach of electrical equipment equipment either. Incidently, that goes for all power cords. Get them out of reach and out of sight. Get rid of all standing lamps, for example, if you can. You should do as much as you can on your own, and then bring in a professional childproofer. I did, and he made some excellent suggestions, and pointed out some dangers that I had missed. Many of these changes were easy to make and free.
I know that some will say that they grew up just fine without seatbelts, car seats, outlet covers, etc. That's true, most of us survived just fine. But the ones who died aren't here to speak up for themselves.
In answer to your specific question, I use that exact gate to isolate my stereo system. However, it is not very sturdy on it's own. I have 2 heavy equipment stands on either side of my tv, and the gate is tied to the stands, and form a semicircle. At the center of the fence, from the inside, I support it with a heavy piano bench, which is also tied to the fence. The speakers are within the fence.
