Does anyone have direct, actual experience with this unit as a preamp? Looking for some specific insights rather than opinions about whatever you want to get on a sopabox about ;)
Just purchased this unit to use as a headphone/preamp in my office system and am very impressed. My goal for this system is to provide a warm yet upbeat sound for listening at low to moderate levels, and I need to do it very cost effectively. I'm feeding it with an Ayre CX-7 and LP12 through a Linto. Speakers are Spendor 5e.
I've hooked the HeadMaster to the amp section of my Linn Majik integrated and am generally pretty impressed, quite musical and reasonably transparent (esp. for the cost)... however, it bothers me to not be using the rest of the integrated (rather put those $ to work on the amp end) and it has just a trace of hardness that I don't hear through the headphones, so thought I'd sell the Majik if I can do better sonically with a standalone SS or tube for not a lot more $ than I'd get for the Majik.
A logical option is the more powerful Bijou amp but you don't see those available much used.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
