Some of us have come to prefer the pristine purity of headphone sound over the muddier (yet more visceral and spacious) sound of loudspeakers. The intitial outlay for a very good headphone system can be relatively inexpensive, but if you are a particularly intense listener you can still wind up spending outrageus amounts of money on a headphone sytem. The quality of source components, amplification, cabling, and recordings often become obsessions for the headphile and this is partly because headphone listening places you on the path to purity.
