Playing the CD on the main system.....Geddy's voice (and maybe his bass) was recorded non-inverted, the remaining instrumentals are inverted.
Very similar problem to Bob Dylan's "Modern Times".....
I thought I was hearing strange things on my travel system.... (Most notably thinking Peart was losing his timing.) It couldn't resolve the problem until I played it on the main system.
The music actually sounds more-interesting when I engage the "invert" switch on the DAC. I recording is not awful (as is the case with Vapor Trails), but it's not exactly one to demo a high-end system. The dynamics are crushed. The bass is ill-defined. (Geddy's electric bass seems inverted relative to Peart's kick drum.) The recording is basically made to sound OK on everything, as opposed to spectacular on an audiophile rig.
The redeeming factor in the sound is it's clean, especially when played inverted. The guitars are easily the best part of the mix.
From the music standpoint, not awful, but not great. Oddly, the one song that bores me to sleep is the single and opening track- "Far Cry". I like the second half of this album far better than the first half.
