Todd,
The reviews I read rated the OptimFROG codec as the best for lossless compression, but only fair for encoding and decoding speed. I have been reluctant to try it because I have been using FLAC very successfully with Foobar and other ripping/buring programs on my PC. For occasional iPod use outdoors or travelling, I use iTunes with AAC at 256kps. However, most of my serious listening is done via CDs on my main system.
However, I am always open to experimenting with other formats, and, based on you recommendation, will investigate OptimFrog further.
