I was born and raised in Phoenix. There are some interesting papago ruins right in town. If you can catch a performance at Grady Gammage auditorium, do it. It's on the ASU campus, and was one of the last things designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. There's a restaurant I like right on the Salt river in Tempe called Monti's La Casa Vieja (the old house). It's historic and the food is both good and cheap.
