My HT system has two channel analog mode. I use a Jolida CD player, an Arcam AV8 pre/pro, Mind Da 845 monoblocks and Opera Platea speakers. It sounds great in 2 channel and killer in 5.1. No reason why you can't have a system that does both. There are actually a couple of things that this system in stereo only mode does a bit better than my dedicated 2 channel system.
