Any number of computers is not a problem. If you block cookies, that's a problem. But that's generally annoying with nearly any forum and could make it impossible to post.
The change was made because new users like the eThreads look better. We thought that the user preferences and cookies would deal with the user base that prefers the Classic view. BTW, the 3rd alternative is the Threads view which looks just like Classic except for two differences: 1) The menu at the top and 2) It makes unread posts with a little red arrow. It allows the same last update sorting and thread with posts in the last X hours and so forth.
Perhaps, the compromise is to use that view as the default if there's no cookie. In the past, I would have never relied on cookies or Javascript because of browser issues and user's reluctance to take cookies. It was my impression that those days were over. It's surprising to me that this many people don't accept or dump cookies.
We need to take a little time and see how this shakes out and then revisit the issue when we get a better feel for what the majority feels is the right solution.
